 Aldi-Style Fried Apples

Ingredients

  • 4–5 firm apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji work well)

  • 3 tbsp butter

  • ¼ cup brown sugar (light or dark)

  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • Pinch of nutmeg or allspice (optional)

  • 1 tsp lemon juice

  • Pinch of salt

Method

  1. Peel, core, and slice apples into wedges.

  2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

  3. Add apples; cook 3–4 min, stirring, until they start to soften.

  4. Sprinkle sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt over apples; stir well.

  5. Lower heat, cover, and cook 5–8 min, stirring occasionally, until tender but not mushy.

  6. Stir in lemon juice; taste and adjust sweetness/spice.

Serve warm as a topping or side.

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls (from scratch)

Dough:

  • 3 cups (375 g) all-purpose flour

  • 2¼ tsp instant yeast

  • ¼ cup sugar

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¾ cup warm milk

  • ¼ cup melted butter

  • 1 egg

Filling:

  • ¼ cup softened butter

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp cinnamon

Glaze:

  • ½ cup powdered sugar + 1–2 tbsp milk or cream

Method:

  1. Mix dough ingredients, knead until smooth (~8 min). Let rise 1 hr.

  2. Roll into rectangle (about 10×14 in). Spread butter, sprinkle sugar & cinnamon.

  3. Roll up tightly; cut 9–12 rolls. Place in greased pan. Rise 30–40 min.

  4. Bake at 180 °C / 350 °F for 20–25 min, until golden.

  5. Cool slightly; drizzle glaze.

Serving Idea

  • Place warm cinnamon rolls on a plate.

  • Spoon fried apples over or alongside.

  • Drizzle extra pan syrup from the apples over the rolls — a perfect sticky-sweet topping!

Would you like me to give you a slow cooker version of the fried apples, so you can cook them alongside the rolls?
