Gravy & Mashed Potatoes

creamy mashed potatoes with rich brown gravy 🥔✨
Perfect alongside roast chicken, beef, or fried pork chops.

 Mashed Potatoes (Serves 4–6)

Ingredients

  • 2 lb (900 g) potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russets work best)

  • 4 Tbsp butter

  • ½ cup (120 ml) warm milk or cream (adjust for texture)

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Directions

  1. Peel (optional) and cut potatoes into chunks.

  2. Boil in salted water until very tender (15–20 min).

  3. Drain well; mash with butter.

  4. Add warm milk/cream a little at a time until smooth and fluffy.

  5. Season with salt & pepper.

Classic Brown Gravy

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp butter (or meat drippings for extra flavor)

  • 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups beef, chicken, or vegetable stock

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • (Optional) ½ tsp Worcestershire or soy sauce for depth

Directions

  1. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.

  2. Whisk in flour; cook 1–2 min until golden (this is your roux).

  3. Slowly whisk in stock, stirring constantly until smooth.

  4. Simmer 3–5 min until thickened.

  5. Taste and season.

 Tips & Variations

  • For garlic mashed potatoes, add 2 cloves of roasted or sautéed garlic when mashing.

  • For extra creaminess, mix in a little sour cream or cream cheese.

  • Make onion or mushroom gravy by sautéing sliced onions/mushrooms before adding flour.
