🥟 Crispy Chicken Wonton Tacos

🍽 Servings: 12 mini tacos

⏱ Total Time: ~30 minutes

📝 Ingredients

For the taco shells:

  • 12 wonton wrappers

  • Cooking spray or oil, for crisping

For the chicken:

  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast or thighs, finely diced or shredded

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional, for sweetness)

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil or olive oil

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated (or ½ tsp ground)

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

For toppings:

  • Shredded lettuce or cabbage (coleslaw mix works great)

  • Chopped green onions

  • Shredded carrots

  • Cilantro, chopped (optional)

  • Sesame seeds (optional)

For the creamy sauce (optional but tasty!):

  • 1/3 cup mayo

  • 1 tbsp honey

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

  • 1–2 tsp sriracha or hot sauce, to taste

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Make the wonton taco shells:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) or use an air fryer at 350°F (175°C).

  • Lightly spray both sides of the wonton wrappers with oil.

  • Drape each wrapper over the side of a muffin tin (to form a taco shape) or shape in mini taco racks.

  • Bake or air fry for 5–7 minutes, or until golden and crisp. Let cool.

2. Cook the chicken:

  • Heat sesame oil in a skillet over medium heat.

  • Add garlic and ginger, cook 1 min.

  • Add diced chicken, cook until browned and cooked through.

  • Stir in soy sauce and hoisin (if using), then remove from heat.

3. Make the creamy sauce:

  • Whisk mayo, honey, vinegar, and sriracha until smooth.

  • Adjust spice/sweetness to your taste.

4. Assemble the tacos:

  • Fill each crispy wonton shell with a spoonful of chicken.

  • Top with lettuce or slaw, carrots, green onions, and a drizzle of creamy sauce.

  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds or cilantro if desired.

✅ Tips & Variations

  • Air fryer hack: Shape wonton wrappers over foil “logs” or the back of a muffin pan for taco shells.

  • Shortcut: Use store-bought rotisserie chicken and toss with sauce.

  • Make it Thai-style: Add a splash of lime juice and peanut sauce to the chicken.
