Instructions:
- Prepare the Meatballs:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork (if using), breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, milk, egg, garlic, parsley, salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat mixture.
- Roll the meat mixture into 1 1/2-inch balls and place them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Assemble the Casserole:
- Pour the marinara sauce evenly over the meatballs, making sure they are all covered.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top of the sauce-covered meatballs.
- Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the mozzarella.
- Finally, sprinkle the Italian seasoning over the top.
- Bake the Casserole:
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- After 25 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the meatballs are fully cooked (internal temperature should reach 160°F or 71°C).
- If you like a golden, crispy top, you can broil the casserole for the last 2-3 minutes.
- Serve:
- Let the casserole cool for a few minutes, then garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.
- Serve the meatball casserole over pasta, with a side of garlic bread, or alongside a fresh salad.
